Dr. Candace Kasper

Candace S. Kasper, M.D., Ph.D., founder, president, and laboratory director of Southwest Dermatopathology Consultants (SDC) since 1991, is responsible for SDC’s diagnostic work, formal client relationships and coordination of federal certification inspections. She brings more than 35 years of training and experience in the biologic and medical sciences to her professional work.

A native Texan, Dr. Kasper graduated from Boston University in 1971, earned a Masters Degree from Harvard University, a Ph.D. in Biology from Boston University, and a Doctorate in Medicine from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. She remained at Southwestern for a 4-year combined residency training in Anatomic Pathology and Dermatopathology under the training of Drs. Vernie Stembridge and Robert G. Freeman, followed by a fellowship in immunodermatology in the department of Department of Dermatology under the training of Drs. Paul Bergstressor and Michael Tharp. Dr. Kasper joined Dr. Freeman at UT Southwestern as Assistant Professor in Pathology and Dermatopathology where she served for 4 years before opening her own independent laboratory in 1991.

Since 1992, Dr. Kasper has served as the staff dermatopathologist of Baylor University Medical Center Department of Pathology where she assists in diagnostic skin pathology and resident teaching.

Dr. Kasper is board certified in Anatomic Pathology and Dermatopathology from the American Boards of Dermatology and Pathology.
